Finalist in Entrepreneur Category: North Wood Blankets are an ‘Eco Chic’ solution to preventing unwanted wool sweaters from filling up land fill sites. To make their blankets, North Wood rescues natural fibre sweaters from second hand shops, thrift depots and from friends and relatives. After washing the sweaters in a unique process designed to enhance the natural qualities of the fibres, they then cut each sweater to maximize the material and minimize waste. In the final stage, the fibres are re-crafted into one-of-a-kind heirloom quality blankets. This simple idea presents an opportunity for Canadians to be more aware of sustainable alternatives, conserve energy and keep warm at the same time.
